Fly Fishing Big Bear Lake

Our speaker this month will be Keith Kern detailing how to fish Big Bear Lake. Big Bear Lake is only a short drive away but feels like another world. It’s large size and depth presents both challenges and opportunities for the fly fisher. It’s fishable most of the year and holds a large variety of fish. Keith will provide the keys to unlocking it enormous potential. The meeting is Thursday, February 23, at 7pm at the Long Beach Casting Club Clubhouse Details ^[1].

March Outing: Lower Owens

Join us March 10-11 for this month’s outing to the Lower Owens River in Bishop. March is generally a great time to fish the Owens with the potential for an early season caddis hatch in addition to the BWO’s and midges. There will be a special “How To Fish The Lower Owens” workshop Saturday, March 3rd from 9-12 at the clubhouse. If you’ve never fished the Owens or just want to pick up some great pointers, plan to attend free event (note: this is not the “Pre-Trip” logistics meeting). The pre-trip will be held Wednesday, February 29th, at 7pm at the Long Beach Casting Club Clubhouse.  See the March Target Talk for details.

2012 Southwestern Tournament

The Southwestern Tournament was held at LBCC Feb 11 & 12, 2012. It was wonderful seeing old friends from Oakland, Arizona, Golden Gate, San Jose, and Washington. Thanks to all of the volunteers! The results have been posted on the Southwestern Tournament ^[2] page.

RENEWAL TIME IS HERE FOR ALL MEMBERS!

It’s that time of year again (didn’t you just read that someplace?). Our new fiscal year begins April 1, 2012. All membership renewals are due no later than March 31st. We update and submit the new roster to the printers in April and those who have not paid their dues are not included in the new roster.    Unlike last year, things will happen on schedule so PLEASE send in your renewal checks this week. A special Thank You to the 22 members who sent their checks in in response to the email in early January! Click here for the 2012 Renewal ^[3] for the form if you lost it, or did not receive one. Be sure to update all your information especially if you did not get one in the mail or you are not getting regular emails from us.

2nd Fly Tying Session Starts February 28th

Our annual fly tying class is over but it doesn’t end there.  There is a special 3 week follow-up session starting Tuesday, February 28 thru March 13th at 7pm.  Attendance at the first session is not required and the class is free.   You can attend any or all classes.

Director’s Handicap Club Cast

There is only one Sunday Club cast left so warm up that arm and get out there.  Make sure to reserve  Sunday, March 18th for the Director’s Handicap.  Your Board of Directors will be hosting the event and they will be cooking and serving breakfast which will be following by a new program called the Danish Casting Games.  These games incorporate real world casts you can use on your favorite water.   The cost for breakfast is nominal ($3-$4) and the casting is free.  You won’t find a better deal or companions in Long Beach.  See the Target Talk for details.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! You do not have to be a member to participate in most of our activities, including our monthly Club Trips.
